Doubao Tests Personal Assistant Project Spell, Plans Deeper Integration

ByteDance's Doubao is pushing forward with product plans for a personal assistant, according to Sina Tech. A source said that as early as April this year, Doubao began internal testing of an exploratory product codenamed "Spell," led by the Doubao phone assistant team, but it was never made public due to reasons including the Doubao phone launch.

After personal assistant products like Muse and Instinct drew attention overseas, Doubao is speeding up the release of its personal agent capabilities. It plans to integrate the Spell project more deeply with Doubao products. The new product will be jointly handled by the Spell team and the Doubao conversation team, and is expected to launch relatively soon.

The consumer version of Doubao phone assistant has already been officially released on the Nubia NaviX Ultra. Spell can be seen as Doubao extending its phone-based personal agent capabilities into a standalone app.
