Dutch Startup Axelera AI Launches Second-Gen AIPU Chip Europa, Claiming 6x Token Throughput Per Watt vs GPU

Dutch chip startup Axelera AI has officially launched Europa, its second-generation AIPU chip. The SoC delivers 629 TOPS of AI compute through 8 AI processing cores and also integrates 16 RISC-V vector processing cores.

Europa supports INT4, INT8, and INT16 data formats, includes 128MB of on-chip L2 cache, supports 256-bit LPDDR5 memory, offers 4 PCIe Gen4 lanes, and has a total power consumption of 45W. Axelera AI will sell Europa in both chip and PCIe AIC form factors.

Axelera AI claims Europa can achieve 6x the token throughput per watt compared to GPU solutions, and over 8x the token throughput at equal price compared to the best competing products.
