Fields Medal winner Jacob Tsimerman joins OpenAI for AI safety

The latest Fields Medal winner, Jacob Tsimerman, announced he's joining OpenAI to work on AI safety. He said at a press conference he'd head to the OpenAI team soon.

Former Microsoft VP and current OpenAI researcher Sebastien Bubeck, along with OpenAI's chief research officer Mark Chen, confirmed the news and welcomed him. Tsimerman won the 2026 Fields Medal for his groundbreaking work in arithmetic and complex algebraic geometry, including proving Griffiths' conjecture and the Andre-Oort conjecture.
