Finland Plans to Make All Public Services AI-Powered by 2031
Finland's government has announced a big plan: by 2031, it wants all public services to run on AI. A senior official said they will build a shared AI platform for all levels of government, using the best AI models available, aiming to boost productivity by at least 20%.
The main reason is to save money on staff costs, so the country can keep funding its welfare system as the population ages. Some job cuts will happen through natural retirement, but some workers will be replaced by AI agents.
Union leaders in Finland worry the government is using AI as an excuse to fire people. They say AI should improve services, not weaken them, and that replacing human workers could put too much pressure on those who remain.
