Firefox 150 Stable Version Fixes 271 Vulnerabilities with AI Model; Open Source Software Security Faces New Challenges
Traditional vulnerability testing relies on automated tools and manual analysis, which struggle to cover all types of vulnerabilities, leaving room for attackers.
FireFirefox 150 Stable Version used Anthropic's Mythos Preview AI model to successfully detect and fix 271 vulnerabilities. Previously, Firefox 148 had collaborated with Anthropic, using the Opus 4.6 model to find 22 vulnerabilities.
Mozilla CTO Bobby Holley notes that AI can cover almost all vulnerability spaces, but this poses a huge challenge to the open source software ecosystem—many open source projects are maintained by a few volunteers and lack resources to handle massive vulnerability fixes.
Mozilla is actively sharing experiences and tools with the open source community to bridge the security gap and prevent AI technology from exacerbating existing inequalities.
