Foxconn CEO: $47 Billion Needed for 1GW AI Data Center
At a business meeting in Taiwan, Foxconn Chairman Liu Yangwei said building a 1GW AI data center based on NVIDIA's Vera Rubin platform would cost $47 billion. Each Vera Rubin rack costs $9.1 million, and the center needs about 3,557 racks. The data center's yearly electricity bill would be $1.3 billion, with hardware depreciation six times that. Liu noted the global data center market could hit $1.6 trillion by 2030, with power capacity jumping from 68GW in 2024 to 174GW. AI demand now comes from model makers, cloud providers, governments, and businesses, with the last two still being untapped markets.
