France drops US AI tool Palantir, picks local firm ChapsVision
France's security intelligence agency will stop using US AI data analysis tool Palantir and switch to a local alternative from French firm ChapsVision, according to The Guardian. Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said France must use its own AI models to avoid new strategic dependencies in the digital field.
The government renewed a long-term contract with Palantir last year, so the transition is expected to take several years. ChapsVision, founded in 2019, focuses on data collection and analysis, with revenue of about 200 million euros last year.
This move is part of a broader trend among European governments to reduce reliance on US digital tools. Last week, the US restricted foreign access to Anthropic's latest AI model, raising concerns about digital sovereignty in Europe.
