Gallup: Tech workers using AI more often face lower layoff risk
A new Gallup study shows that in the US tech industry, employees who use AI at least once a month face an estimated layoff risk of about 6%, while those using AI less often see that risk jump to 18%—three times higher. The data comes from a survey of over 23,000 American workers conducted in February. The trend extends beyond tech: workers who don't use AI regularly are more likely to be laid off, though the gap is smaller. Even after accounting for age, education, and industry, the link between AI use and job stability remains. AI is creating a new career divide. Companies now consider AI skills during hiring and may factor AI usage into layoff decisions. However, only about 1% of laid-off workers say AI directly caused their job loss, with most citing restructuring or cost cuts.
