German minister's speeches flagged for AI use
German newspaper DIE ZEIT used AI detection tool Pangram to analyze speeches and articles by Carsten Wierbelberg, Germany's Minister for Digitalization and Modernization. The results show many of his writings show signs of AI assistance, including guest articles, speeches, and even parliamentary addresses. Common patterns include heavy use of dashes, parallel structures, and negative or rhetorical questions.
Out of 30 speeches checked, one was fully AI-written and seven had AI help. Interestingly, those flagged articles actually warned about relying too much on foreign AI and the dangers of AI. A spokesperson for the minister said he sees AI as a tool and admitted some content was drafted with AI help, but stressed that humans must always be responsible for reviewing and verifying the work.
