GitHub Copilot picks Kimi K2.7 Code as its first open-source model

GitHub Copilot has added Kimi K2.7 Code, an open-source model from Moonshot AI, marking the first time Copilot supports an open-source model. The model is hosted on Microsoft Azure and uses a pay-as-you-go pricing model.

Right now, Kimi K2.7 Code is rolling out to Copilot Pro, Pro+, and Max subscribers. GitHub says it will monitor performance and expand to Business and Enterprise plans in the coming weeks.

Moonshot AI says Kimi K2.7 Code improves on the K2.6 model with better instruction-following in long-context coding, stronger performance in long tasks, and 30% fewer tokens on average by reducing overthinking.
