Google AI Overview mistakes 'disregard' as a command
Google Search's AI Overview has a logic bug. When users search for words like 'disregard,' the AI treats it as a system command instead of a search query, replying 'Got it, message ignored.'
This causes a big empty space in the AI Overview area, blocking the regular search results below. The same issue appears on mobile devices.
Tests show other command-like words, such as 'ignore' and 'stop,' also trigger the AI's 'execute mode' instead of 'search mode.' The problem emerged after Google launched its Gemini-powered 'smart search box' at the 2026 I/O developer conference.
