Google changes Gemini quota system, paid users get 3x more usage
At the 2026 Google I/O conference, Google announced changes to its Gemini quota system. Starting May 17, the old daily prompt count limit was replaced with a compute-based model, factoring in request complexity, features used, and chat history length. This caused Pro and Ultra paid users to hit limits faster during heavy coding or multimedia tasks, triggering 5-hour cooldowns and weekly locks.
After backlash on Reddit and X, Google Antigravity's Varun Mohan said they've reset this week's quota for affected users and will permanently triple the allowance. Some accounts already show the increase, but the update is rolling out gradually.
