Google exec uses Claude Fable 5 to bring 2003 PC game to iPhone
Ammaar Reshi, a product lead at Google DeepMind, used Claude Fable 5 to port the 2003 RTS game Command & Conquer: Generals – Zero Hour to iOS. The game runs natively on ARM64, not through an emulator, using EA's open-sourced code. Campaign, skirmish, and challenge modes all work.
Reshi isn't a coder—he studied poetry in college and worked as a designer. He just told the AI what to do, and it did the heavy lifting. The build took 40 minutes, though it burned through a Max subscription in two days. He previously made a children's book with ChatGPT and Midjourney.
Challenges included outdated GPU detection, memory usage jumping from 128MB to over 3GB, and rebuilding touch controls for RTS gameplay. The port isn't on the App Store yet—users need Xcode and Vulkan SDK to compile it themselves.
EA open-sourced several C&C games in February 2025, enabling this project. It shows how AI can help preserve old games, combining open source, community effort, and AI compilation.
