Google Gboard Adds Gemini-Powered Dictation Feature, Supporting Multi-Language Switch in One Sentence
Google announced at the 2026 Android Show: I/O Edition event that its Gboard input method will add an AI-powered voice dictation feature called Rambler, developed based on the Gemini model. Rambler can automatically remove filler words like "um" or "ah" and recognize on-the-fly corrections in sentences, such as accurately converting "meet at 3 PM Wednesday... um, 2 PM".
Notably, Rambler supports "code-switching"—users can switch between different languages in a single sentence without losing context. For privacy, the feature does not store voice recordings, only uses audio for transcription, and combines on-device and cloud processing to ensure security. Initially available on Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones in summer, it will later expand to other Android devices.
