Google Gemini hits 950 million monthly users, closing in on ChatGPT

Google says its AI assistant Gemini now has 950 million monthly active users. That number has been growing fast - it was around 650 million last October and over 750 million by February this year. CEO Sundar Pichai said daily active users have tripled in the past year.

Market data from Sensor Tower shows ChatGPT has about 1 billion monthly users. Gemini is quickly catching up to ChatGPT.

To stay ahead, Google keeps releasing faster and cheaper models. This week it launched three new models including Gemini 3.6 Flash. They perform better on tasks like coding and use fewer tokens, making them cheaper to run. The next big model Gemini 3.5 Pro is delayed, but early work on Gemini 4 has started. The latest numbers show Gemini is still growing strong.
