Google Gemini Launches Switching Tool: One-Click Import of Chat Records and Preferences from ChatGPT & Other Apps

Google Gemini has launched a 'switching tool' that allows free and paid users to import memories, preferences, and full chat records from other AI chat apps with one click, rolling out to consumer accounts starting now.

The tool includes two features: Memory import requires getting a prompt from Gemini's settings page, pasting it into the current AI app to generate a preference summary, then returning to import it; dialogue record import supports uploading ZIP chat packages, enabling users to search historical conversations in Gemini and continue discussions. Additionally, Gemini has renamed 'past chats' to 'memory', and enterprise accounts, users under 18, and regions like the European Economic Area are temporarily not supported. Anthropic Claude also launched a similar feature this month.
