Google Gemini's new billing system sparks user anger
According to Android Authority, Google changed Gemini's billing system on May 17, moving from 'daily prompt count' to 'compute-based billing,' triggering widespread user complaints. The new rules factor in request complexity, feature usage, and chat history length, significantly raising costs for users.
User Ashutosh Shrivastava shared a video on X showing that with 0% usage on his $20/month Google AI Pro subscription, a single simple prompt to generate a video consumed the entire 5-hour quota after 3-4 minutes, and the video failed to produce. Gemini head Josh Woodward responded, saying he would investigate.
