Google imagines Founding Fathers using AI to draft Declaration of Independence
To mark the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, Google released a creative ad. It imagines Founding Fathers like Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson using modern tools like Google Workspace, Meet, and Gemini to draft the document. They even use an AI visualization tool to design the national seal and ask a chatbot for advice on whether to let King George see the file.
The ad, titled 'Group Project, 1776 Edition,' shows editing in Google Docs, scheduling with Google Calendar, remote meetings (with everyone's camera off), and e-signatures. Gemini takes meeting notes, and AI helps generate animal designs for the seal—mixing modern office life with history.
Compared to a past ad criticized for having AI write a kid's fan letter, this one is more subtle. But the visuals look a bit like typical AI-generated video. Reactions are mixed: positive on YouTube and Instagram, but called 'awkward' and 'slow' on Bluesky. Some users question whether AI really helps with political teamwork.
