Google launches Agent Compute Engine to give AI agents their own cloud computer
Google has announced the Agent Compute Engine (ACE), a Google Cloud service built for AI agents. It aims to give every agent a safe, lasting, and flexible "computer" of its own in the cloud. ACE provides each agent with a hardware-isolated micro virtual machine, so it can run code, use tools, control browsers, and finish multi-step tasks safely. Unlike regular virtual machines or containers, it is optimized for how agents live and work, starts quickly, and keeps no passwords inside, lowering the risk of misuse or data leaks. A key feature is "pause and resume": when an agent is idle, its environment can suspend and free up resources, then quickly wake up when needed. In tests with 200,000 agents, pausing and resuming took less than 500 milliseconds. The service now supports Gemini, Antigravity, and Google's internal model evaluation and reinforcement learning. Developers will later be able to manage their agent environments through Google Cloud.
