Google Launches AI Image Tool Pics with In-Doc Editing
Google officially launched its AI image design and editing tool, Google Pics, on September 1. Users can access it via pics.new or use the editor directly in Google Docs and Slides. The tool simplifies creating visuals like posters and invitations.
Powered by the Nano Banana image model, Pics is available to individual users through Google AI Pro, Ultra, and Education plans, while businesses get access via Workspace Business and Enterprise tiers. It supports generating images from prompts or editing uploaded files, including imports from local storage, Drive, and Photos. In Docs or Slides, clicking an image opens an overlay editor without leaving the tab.
The tool includes precise object segmentation, letting users adjust specific elements without altering the background. It also edits or translates text within images while preserving fonts and layout. Pics supports batch editing, real-time collaboration, and upscaling to 2K or 4K. A drag-and-drop feature from Drive is planned for the coming weeks.
