Google Launches Native Gemini App for Mac, Supporting Shortcut Wake-up and Screen Sharing
Google launched the native Gemini app for Mac yesterday, developed with 100% Swift. It requires macOS 15 Sequoia or above and is available for download now. With this launch, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google's three major AI services have all landed on the Mac platform.
Optimized for Mac, the app supports Option+Space to wake up the mini chat window and Option+Shift+Space to open the full interface. It also allows screen sharing for AI to read content; browser page access needs permission. Users can customize chat window modes, voice broadcast options, etc.
Basic features are free but with limited quota. Paid subscriptions have three tiers: AI Plus ($7.99/month), AI Pro ($19.99/month), and AI Ultra ($249.99/month). Google emphasizes its "desktop assistant" positioning and says more features will be updated in the future to compete for the AI desktop entry.
