Google may skip Gemini 3.5 Pro, push Gemini 4 early
Industry analyst Semi Analysis says Google may have shelved the Gemini 3.5 Pro model internally, and might promote the Gemini 4 series early to fill the gap. Google CEO Sundar Pichai had promised a June launch for Gemini 3.5 Pro at the I/O conference in May, but it's still not out. In Alphabet's Q2 earnings call, Pichai again said he's excited about Gemini's progress and confident it stays ahead. But Semi Analysis thinks Gemini has fallen behind. According to the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, Gemini ranks 8th, trailing Muse Spark 1.2, Grok 4.5, and top Chinese open-source labs. In July, a user screenshot showed Gemini 3.5 Pro briefly appeared on Arena, then was removed after 30 minutes.
