Google Plans Millions of TPU v9 Chips by 2028, Challenging Nvidia's AI Dominance
A market analysis report predicts that Google plans to deploy 12 to 15 million of its own TPU v9 AI chips by 2028. This number could match or even exceed Nvidia's expected 12.4 million AI GPUs in the same year, showing Google's fast progress in AI server accelerators.
The TPU v9 will use a 4-compute-die design, which increases the need for advanced manufacturing and packaging. To secure supply, Google may look for other partners beyond TSMC, creating new opportunities for Intel and Samsung. Earlier reports said Google ordered over 3 million TPUs from Intel and plans to have Samsung make the I/O die for TPU v10.
