Google's AI-generated code accounts for 3/4 of new internal code, tech giants accelerate AI programming adoption
Did you know? Three-quarters of new code written internally at Google is now generated by AI, then reviewed by human engineers. This ratio has risen steadily—from 1/4 in October 2024 to 50% last fall, and now 75%. Google CEO Pichai noted that complex code migrations by agents and engineers are 6 times faster than relying solely on engineers a year ago.
It's not just Google; tech giants are accelerating AI programming. Microsoft has 20%-30% AI-generated code in some projects, Meta aims for 55% agent-assisted code in some teams by Q4 2025, and Snap requires at least 65% of new code to be AI-generated. Engineers use models like Gemini, and AI usage is even included in performance reviews.
