Google's Sergey Brin Says Gemini Is Getting Close to Improving Itself
Google co-founder Sergey Brin said at a roundtable for the new Gemini 4 Argon model that AI has started helping build its own next generation. He said Google is "stepping onto the RSI treadmill." RSI means recursive self-improvement, where AI helps build stronger AI, creating a fast-spinning flywheel.
Google's safety report shows AI agents now handle most production code writing and bug fixing, but humans still review changes before they go live. The earlier Flash models already showed this trend.
Google isn't alone here. Anthropic and OpenAI have also said AI may be close to this stage. A Gladstone AI report found most researchers think RSI could start within 3 to 12 months. Still, some warn that without enough safeguards, humans could slowly lose control of such fast-evolving tech.
