Google Scientist Warns: EU's Demand to Open Search Data May Expose User Privacy
The EU has recently strengthened regulation on large tech companies, requiring Google to open search data (including rankings, queries, etc.) to competitors like OpenAI under fair conditions. This has sparked strong opposition from Google, which believes it may endanger user privacy.
Google's distinguished scientist Sergey Vasilvetsky stated that the EU's proposed personal data anonymization method is insufficient to prevent AI from re-identifying users—its red team successfully identified users in less than two hours. He will meet with EU officials to propose a more comprehensive alternative plan.
If Google fails to implement the EU's requirements, it may violate the Digital Markets Act and face a fine of up to 10% of its global annual revenue.
