Google Tests Expanding AI Overviews into AI Mode Interface

Google Search is testing expanding AI Overviews into a more AI Mode-like interface. For some queries, it now shows longer AI answers by default, along with an 'Ask anything' follow-up box. This pushes the traditional blue-link results further down, but it's still unclear how it affects site traffic or ad views. A Google spokesperson said AI Overviews will expand dynamically for topics the system finds most useful, and research shows this makes search feel more helpful. AI product lead Robby Stein added that if a user starts scrolling, the system stops expanding to keep their place. The interface is still being tested and refined.
