Google tests new control for sites in AI search
Google announced on June 3 that it's testing a new control feature. Website owners can now manage how their content appears in generative AI search results. The feature is first rolling out to some UK site owners for testing.
Google is adding an opt-out toggle in Search Console. Site owners can decide if their site shows up in AI search features like AI Overviews, AI Mode, or AI Overviews in Discover. They can also control if their content is used to help answer questions. Google says AI Overviews has over 2.5 billion monthly users, and AI Mode has over 1 billion.
Opting out won't affect a site's regular search results or ranking. But this setting only applies to Google Search products, not the Gemini app.
