Google uses AI to fix more Chrome bugs in a month than in two years
Google says its internal AI tools helped fix more Chrome security bugs in a month than in the previous two years combined. Chrome versions 149 and 150, released in June, fixed 1,072 bugs, while the previous 23 versions over two years only fixed 1,036.
Chrome engineering director Doug Turner says large language models have changed the cost structure of cybersecurity, making bug discovery automated and industrial. Using models like Gemini, Google can fix bugs before they are exploited.
Microsoft saw a similar trend. Earlier this month, it fixed a record 570 security bugs across its products in one update, with internal AI use cited as a key reason. Apple hasn't shown the same exponential growth yet, having fixed 482 product bugs so far in 2026.
