Hikers Stranded on Mount Shasta After Trusting Gemini's Advice
Three inexperienced hikers in California, USA, got stranded on Mount Shasta after relying on Google's Gemini for advice. Gemini suggested an 8-hour summit hike and recommended easy-to-digest carbs over fats. But the actual climb was much harder—they started at 3 AM, didn't reach the top until 7 PM, taking 16 hours. While descending in the dark, they went off trail into Mud Creek Canyon, and one injured a knee. They called police for help and were rescued the next morning. The hikers admitted they trusted AI too much without using their own judgment. Experts say AI can't assess real conditions like weather or trail difficulty, so it shouldn't be the only guide for risky outdoor activities.
