Hong Kong actor Wu Qihua sells his likeness for an AI movie, says AI opens new paths for actors
62-year-old Hong Kong actor Wu Qihua shared at a recent event that he sold his likeness for an AI movie. The film uses his 20-year-old appearance to create a character, so he doesn't need to act in person. Wu said he saw the final product and was happy, calling it a chance to relive his lead role days.
Wu signed a contract, so he's not worried about misuse of his image, and said the pay was good. He believes AI won't hurt actors' jobs but opens new paths. "I can just sit and not film, even if I break my legs, I'm fine," he joked.
Other actors have mixed views. Matthew McConaughey warned AI could replace humans, Nicolas Cage said AI can't show real human feelings, and Wang Jinsong called AI "terrible." Last year, US actors' union SAG-AFTRA strongly opposed synthetic actors.
