Hong Kong launches first AI community pilot, 50 AI ambassadors appointed
Hong Kong's Generative AI Center (HKGAI) has launched the city's first 'AI community pilot zone' in Kwun Tong, with 50 local AI ambassadors trained to teach residents how to use AI tools. The goal is to expand this model to all 18 districts across Hong Kong.
Three AI tools were introduced: 'Gong Wah Tung' helps with daily tasks like weather checks, recipe suggestions, and calorie counting, and even works with local supermarkets for points and recipe generation. 'Gong Wui Tung' and 'Gong Man Tung' assist with meeting notes, real-time translation in Cantonese, Mandarin, English, and more, plus document writing and proofreading for community workers.
The project uses a hands-on approach: HKGAI trains volunteers as AI ambassadors, who then teach neighbors one-on-one. For elderly or disabled residents, home visits are available. HKGAI sees this as a pilot to bring AI to everyone in Hong Kong.
