Huawei launches open-source Pangu 2.0, CEO admits limited computing power

At the HDC 2026 developer conference, Huawei officially launched the open-source Pangu 2.0 model (openPangu 2.0), with up to 505B parameters. Executive Director Richard Yu recalled that Huawei released the country's first large model and was a global pioneer, but failed to maintain the lead due to various reasons.

Yu was put in charge of the large model business last September. At the event, he said he would lead the team to catch up, declaring he only accepts being number one. However, he admitted the available computing power is very limited.
