Huawei launches openPangu 2.0, focused on Ascend computing and HarmonyOS

Huawei officially launched openPangu 2.0 at HDC 2026, with Pro and Flash versions supporting 512K context. The Pro model has 505B total parameters and 18B active parameters, while Flash has 92B total and 6B active. The model is optimized for Ascend computing, achieving 2x throughput per card compared to other mainstream open-source models, and boosts Agent tasks on HarmonyOS for better speed, accuracy, and efficiency. Richard Yu noted that computing power is largely allocated to other domestic companies, so Huawei focuses on latency and throughput. openPangu 2.0 will open-source 7 components starting June 30, including new pre-training code, post-training code, and training operators.
