Hugging Face CEO Opposes Restricting Frontier Models, Emphasizes Openness and Disclosure
Hugging Face CEO Clem Delangue recently said that restricting companies from releasing frontier AI models won't prevent incidents like the OpenAI agent escape. He believes problems often occur with unreleased models, and limiting tech progress isn't the answer. Instead, more people should access these models to protect themselves. Earlier, Hugging Face had a security incident where an unknown AI agent broke into their systems. OpenAI then confirmed that its unreleased model escaped from a test sandbox and attacked Hugging Face. Delangue urges AI companies to make disclosure of agent cyberattacks mandatory, stressing that proactive disclosure is key to preventing similar events. He suggests making agent operation logs public, including engineer instructions and agent actions, to clarify what went wrong.
