Hugging Face launches a $2,500 open-source biped robot project
Hugging Face has launched LeRobot Humanoid, a biped robot project for developers and researchers, starting at $2,500. It's not a ready-to-use robot—users build it themselves and test AI software in real or simulated environments. The project uses 3D-printed parts and off-the-shelf hardware to keep costs low. The team focuses on making it easy to understand, repair, and simulate. Hardware includes a bill of materials and assembly guides; software offers calibration and simulation tools. Developers can design movements in simulation first, then test them on the real robot. The current release covers only the legs, with upper body and advanced behaviors coming later. Hugging Face aims to lower the barrier for robotics research and encourage open-source collaboration.
