India's Reliance Industries launches AI call assistant Jio Call Agent for over 500 million users
India's Reliance Industries unveiled Jio Call Agent at its annual shareholder meeting. The AI assistant is built directly into Jio's telecom network, activated by voice command 'Hey Jio'. It transcribes calls, generates summaries, and helps users book rides or order food. The service will launch later this year, reaching over 500 million users.
Reliance also launched an AI-powered version of MyJio app, letting users complete tasks like activating eSIM or choosing roaming plans with natural language commands. The smart home device TeleFrame uses AI to proactively show weather alerts and family reminders. These products aim to bring AI into phone calls, apps, and smart homes.
The company founded Reliance Intelligence last year to build AI infrastructure for consumers, businesses, and governments, including apps supporting 22 Indian languages. Chairman Mukesh Ambani said India should be a creator and global leader in AI, not just a consumer.
