Indian AI Startup Sarvam AI Nears $300M-$350M Funding Round, Aiming to Challenge Giants with Local Language Edge
Indian AI startup Sarvam AI is close to completing a funding round of $300 million to $350 million, with a valuation of approximately $1.5 billion to $1.55 billion, expected to close as early as next week. Bessemer Venture Partners is set to lead the round, with participation from Nvidia, Amazon, and Prosperity7 Ventures.
Founded in 2023 by two AI researchers, the company's models support 22 Indian languages and focus on voice command interaction. This strategy targets the majority of India's 1.45 billion population who cannot read or write in English, aiming to fill the gaps left by giants like OpenAI in non-English markets and build a local AI competitive edge.
