Infosys Chairman Says AI Creates New Jobs Instead of Killing Them
Nandan Nilekani, chairman of Indian tech giant Infosys, said at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi that claims AI will replace human jobs are nonsense. He believes AI can boost small businesses and create demand for new skills.
He explained that business transformation is more than writing code. About 70% of the work involves governance, change management and security, like keeping AI from making things up or going out of control. New jobs will focus on understanding customer needs and coordinating teamwork.
Investors are less confident. As AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic get better at coding, the old outsourcing model built on engineering graduates is under pressure. Infosys shares have fallen about 45% in two years.
Nilekani said demand for transformation is bigger than ever. Companies need to help workers learn new skills and build new capabilities, and there will be more work ahead.
