Jensen Huang's first post on X: 25 companies sign open letter supporting open-source AI models
According to Tom's Hardware, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang posted his first message on X, sharing an open letter signed by 25 companies including Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta, IBM, and Dell. The letter explains why open-source AI models matter.
Huang says open-weight models lower the barrier for AI adoption, allowing small businesses and universities to improve models at low cost. This boosts market competition and prevents a monopoly on computing power and technology. He stresses that open-source techniques like model distillation are different from stealing closed-source tech.
On safety concerns, Huang argues that closed-source models aren't automatically safe. When a few companies control top AI, it creates a single point of risk. Open-source allows more researchers to find bugs and improve security, making AI safer overall through transparency.
