Jensen Huang Says It's Fine If AI Makes Kids Forget Basic Math
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told The New York Times that forgetting basic math because of AI is not a serious problem. The host cited a study of 26,000 students in China showing AI helped them finish homework faster and get better grades, but their exam scores dropped over time.
Huang acknowledged the "knowledge retention" issue may exist, but said he is not worried. He shared his own experience of outsourcing memory: "I can't remember my home address or my phone number, and I'm totally fine with that."
He believes AI may cost people some fine-grained thinking flexibility, but they will become better systems thinkers. Huang calls AI a "capability amplifier" and suggests people use it to deepen learning and enhance professional skills, as well as uniquely human abilities like storytelling, aesthetics and empathy.
