King Charles III Gathers AI Leaders, Asks Them to Guarantee Humans Stay in Control
King Charles III gathered an AI forum at Dumfries House in Scotland. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar, and Google DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis are attending. Senior Anthropic representatives and UK AI Minister Kanishka Narayan also joined.
In his prepared speech, Charles wrote that people who value humanity and its moral principles urgently want assurance that humans can still control their own destiny. Buckingham Palace said the forum will explore how AI can benefit society and nature.
The King will ask executives two key questions: how to unlock AI's benefits with safety at the core, and how to achieve this through international cooperation so no country is left behind and humanity's future is protected.
Charles warned in 2023 at the UK's first AI Safety Summit that tackling AI risks is urgent. He has also raised concerns about climate change, and tech giants' energy-hungry data centers and fossil fuel use could put AI executives on the defensive.
