L'Oreal speeds up product development 4 times with AI
L'Oreal's exec says the French beauty company uses AI to pick molecules from skincare for hair products, making new product development four times faster. AI predicts how molecules work on skin and hair, speeding up ingredient testing and formula creation. Nestle, Haleon, and Mondelez also use AI for innovation. Mondelez says AI cuts down sample numbers, and 60% of its AI-made recipes score better on nutrition, sustainability, and cost. AI turns months of work into weeks, and years into months. L'Oreal started using AI in labs four years ago, recently reused skincare molecules in a collagen shampoo for fuller hair. The CEO launched a "beauty innovation boost plan" last year to tackle changing consumer tastes and cost pressures.
