Linus Torvalds: AI is useful in Linux development, but duplicate bug reports are a headache
Linus Torvalds recently released the fourth candidate version of Linux 7.1 and shared his views on AI's application in Linux development. He thinks AI is great if it truly helps, but complains that a large number of duplicate AI-generated bug reports create unnecessary work.
Linus emphasized that he doesn't oppose developers using AI tools; instead, he hopes everyone submits actual fixes when finding issues, rather than randomly sending duplicate reports. He mentioned that the continuous influx of AI reports makes security lists almost unmanageable, as different people use the same tools to find the same problems.
Previously, Linus stated that AI is just a tool, like compilers that free people from writing assembly code by hand, and it won't make programmers disappear.
