Mainstream 16G Memory Modules Drop Over 100 Yuan in a Day; Google's New Algorithm Impacts AI Hardware Demand
Since last week, memory prices in the market have plummeted sharply, with mainstream 16G memory modules seeing a maximum single-day drop of over 100 yuan. Wholesalers say this is mainly due to large hoarders selling off their stocks. Previously, excessive price increases led to a more than 60% drop in sales compared to November last year, and insufficient market absorption capacity further intensified the selling pressure.
At the same time, Google released the TurboQuant new compression algorithm, which can reduce the memory usage of key-value cache during large language model operation by at least 60%, leading to a downward adjustment in market expectations for AI hardware demand. Affected by this, the market value of US memory chip stocks evaporated nearly 100 billion US dollars this week, with Micron Technology's stock price falling by 15% cumulatively and its market value evaporating over 70 billion US dollars.
