Mark Cuban: AI Won't Replace Doctors, But It Will Replace Paperwork
Billionaire Mark Cuban recently pushed back against the idea that AI will replace doctors, stressing that real-time observation, communication, and empathy are things AI can't copy. He specifically said radiologists won't lose their jobs, but every radiologist will use AI in the future.
Cuban thinks AI's real role is to take over the tons of paperwork doctors deal with, and his solution is simple: "Use AI to replace the middlemen." He suggests doctors help patients set up tools like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Grok, then share the results to get a fuller picture of the patient's health.
Cuban has long focused on middlemen in healthcare. In 2022, he co-founded Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company, an online pharmacy with transparent pricing that bypasses traditional pharmacy benefit managers. He also advises employers to use AI to review medical contracts for hidden costs, and predicts AI will spark an "arms race" between doctors and insurers.
