Math Professor Accuses OpenAI of Rushing to Solve Millennium Problem
A New York University math professor, Tristan Buckmaster, working with an Anthropic mathematician, made early progress on the Navier-Stokes equation, one of the seven Millennium Problems with a $1 million prize. Buckmaster claims OpenAI, after learning of their work, rushed a team to finish the full proof using huge computing power. OpenAI says its research started on September 1st and denies seeing their work early. The dispute raises questions about AI's role in math and data privacy.
