MediaTek ramps up hiring to bet big on AI chips, targets data center market by 2030
MediaTek plans to expand hiring to support its AI business growth. Senior VP Vince Hu is optimistic about future growth, saying orders for new data center business have good visibility until around 2030. MediaTek expects AI chip revenue of about $2 billion this year, with hopes to multiply by 2027, targeting up to 15% of the $80 billion data center market.
Nvidia's new PC chip Spark uses technology co-developed with MediaTek. Hu promised to expand engineering teams, echoing Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's view that AI will enhance tech workforce, not reduce it. MediaTek is already developing AI chips for a cloud service provider and has secured a second design project. Analysts suggest Google is a client, and SpaceX may also rely on MediaTek for data center chips in the future.
