Meta Internal Document Leaked: 65% of Engineers Required to Use AI for Over 75% of Code Writing
A leaked internal document from Meta reveals the company is setting AI tool usage targets for various business units, the latest move by CEO Zuckerberg to push Meta into an 'AI-native' company. The most aggressive target comes from the Creation team: by the first half of 2026, 65% of engineers must use AI for over 75% of their submitted code.
The Scalable ML team set a February 2026 target of 50% to 80% of code assisted by AI, but a senior engineering manager noted 'we are not tracking this via metrics'. Company-wide targets for core products like Messenger, WhatsApp, and Facebook require 80% of mid-to-senior engineers to adopt AI tools like DevMate, Metamate, and Google Gemini, with 55% of code changes being 'agent-assisted'. The CTO will personally lead Meta's 'AI for Work' project to drive full adoption of internal AI tools.
A Meta spokesperson said the performance system focuses on the actual results from AI tools, not just usage rates.
