Meta launches Muse Code, its AI coding agent to rival Claude Code and Codex
Meta announced on August 6 the beta launch of Muse Code, its first AI coding agent, aiming to compete with Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex. The tool is led by Meta's Chief AI Officer, Alexandr Wang, who joined Meta in June 2025 and is key to the company's AI strategy.
Muse Code is available in preview. Developers can install it with one command and use it for tasks like planning changes, writing code, and verifying results. Wang said Muse Spark 1.2 was developed alongside Muse Code to boost coding performance.
For pricing, developers can pay per use: $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens. There's also a 'contributor tier' with lower entry cost, but users must agree to help improve the model, which involves Meta using third-party data. Meta is also starting to accept zero-data retention requests, meaning it won't keep developer data for model improvement. Wang called this 'a big enterprise feature important to many.'
